Google gets gadgety

Google Gadget Ads launched today, the first "rich media format" ads that combine Google's incredible targeting with widget-style moving parts. Advertisers can now add creative animation and mini apps inside banner ads that appear on Google's ad networks, with scrolling maps, dancing icons, etc. etc. CPM and CPC models apply.

With Google's ad network reaching 75% of all online users and banner ad spending up in the first six months of 2007 17.7%, this should only increase demand for online advertising. We love the idea, but note that advertisers should be careful of hype, cost the new format carefully, and monitor the real cost per action/conversion before jumping in too far.
