Abba, where are you? Rolling Stone reports Wal-Mart and other big box retailers are reducing the floor space allocated for music CDs, in yet another sign of music, print, video and everything else shrinking into little digitized files on glass screens inside your pocket. Major retailers have told music execs to expect future cut-backs in CD sales space in the range of 20%.
Oof, it's a slippery slope ... CD sales plummeted 17% year to date, and online MP3s won't make up the difference, since they only account for 10% of total music sales. The good news is Amazon is coming on strong, iTunes has competition, so prices should come down on Abba.
